Improvements to N. Trade Street and Matthews Mint Hill Road

Updated March 18, 2010

Construction of concrete bumpouts at the southeast corner of John St. and N. Trade St. is underway. This work will continue down the south side of the street. Partial lane closures will occur during this time. This work should be completed by the end of March.

Milling and paving of Matthews-Mint Hill Road is also underway. Milling and patching will happen March 18-19. Paving will be done March 22-23. Partial lane closures will occur.

Police are working to help coordinate traffic through these construction areas. You may want to avoid the area during this time or use alternate routes such as NC 51 and Fullwood Drive if you are visiting downtown Matthews.

The work on N. Trade Street is designed to make the street more pedestrian friendly and beautify the downtown area. Crosswalk and sidewalk improvements will be completed as part of the plan. Both N. Trade Street and Matthews-Mint Hill Road will be repaved. The project is expected to take one month. Staff is working to minimize the impact on businesses and residents.

The Town received $550,000 in federal stimulus dollars for this project. The cost of the project is $611,000. Boggs Paving of Monroe is the general contractor. The entire project is expected to be done by early April.
