We work with existing businesses as well as businesses that may potentially locate in the Town.

An Economic Development Advisory Committee has been formed by the Town Board. This committee is working with the N.C. Department of Commerce, Charlotte Regional Partnership, and others to market Matthews as the place where you need to have your business.
The Town is currently undertaking a small business incubator market assessment to determine if an incubator would make sense in Matthews. What is a small business incubator? An incubator is an environment that grows and nurtures small business and entrepreneurs through the early months or years of their existence by providing support services. Services that can be provided range from mentoring and formal business training to shared office space and equipment to help reduce costs. The goal of an incubator is to create a revolving program by growing and nurturing start-up businesses so they can be successful enough to move out of the incubator into the community and move new start up businesses into the incubator. The Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC), which is a part of North Carolina State University and affiliated with the US Small Business Administration, is conducting the assessment.
