Economic Development

The Town plays a vital role in economic development which is the growth and success of businessess in the community. Matthews works with existing businesses as well as businesses that may potentially locate in the Town.

Matthews seeks a collaborative relationship with businesses as they work to achieve success in the world's economy. Priorities include: regional innovation (the Town is in the process of exploring establishing an incubator for businesses), private/public partnerships with developers to bring businesses and industries with job opportunities and competitive salaries; environmentally sustainable development and more.

The Town is fortunate to have educational institutions in its midst that offer advanced degrees, undergraduate degrees and workforce training -  Wingate University's Metro Campus in Downtown Matthews and Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC).

CPCC has an Institute for Entrepreneurship that provides both free and fee based courses that help you start, grow and manage businesses of every size. They will offer a free seminar on Entrepreneurial Success on Tuesday, April 13, from 12-6 p.m. at the CPCC - Levine Campus in Matthews. To find out more about this seminar, click here.

An Economic Development Advisory Committee has been formed by the Town Board. This committee is working with the N.C. Department of Commerce, Charlotte Regional Partnership, and others to market Matthews as the place where you need to have your business.

An online product inventory outlining all land, buildings and office space available in the Town is expected to be completed with the next few months.

We invite you to attend the Town of Matthews Economic Summit which will be held, from 12-2 p.m., on April 16 at Town Hall. During this time we will share with you economic development initiatives the Town is exploring and briefly hear from agency representatives from around the state who can offer resources to your business. The summit is sponsored by Wingate University’s Metro Campus in Downtown Matthews. This meeting is free and a boxed lunch will be served. We do ask that you RSVP by calling 704-847-4411, ext. 224 by April 9.
