Facilities

Matthews Community Center opened in 1907 as the Town's first public school. Over the decades, the classic brick schoolhouse was expanded to meet the demands of this growing community. When the aging building faced demolition in the 1990's, the Town of Matthews stepped in with a multi-million dollar restoration effort. Now a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmark, the Community Center Provides a vital link between Matthews’ picturesque past and dynamic future.

Parks

Individuals, organizations, and/or corporations that wish to use a park on a specific date and time for a special restrictive purpose, must reserve each facility. A Park Use Permit must be completed and the appropriate fees paid prior to the applicant receiving a Park Confirmation Letter. The philosophy of the department is that parks should be open and available to the general public on a daily basis. However, a corporation or business may reserve a park for a one-day special event. For further information, call Flo Krouse at 704-321-7275 or e-mail her.
