Project experiences delays; expected to be completed in Fall 2019

NCDOT is currently working on the continued expansion of S. Trade Street. The project will widen S. Trade from two to four lanes between Chaphyn Lane and Marque Place, and lengthen the culvert under S. Trade Street.

The project was originally expected to be completed in September 2018. After experiencing several delays, the completion date has now been pushed back to the fall of 2019.

According to NCDOT, they began construction of the culvert several months ago.
The widening of Pleasant Plains, south of Weddington Road is complete. Once the culvert construction is completed, they will move north of the culvert to complete the widening of Trade St. up to Chaphyn Lane and the MARA fields.

For more specific information, please contact Brian Davis with NCDOT (the Resident Engineer on this project) 704-845-1151 bddavis@ncdot.gov.

Following completion of this project, an additional project will build a pedestrian tunnel and greenway connection under S. Trade Street, adjacent to the culvert. The pedestrian tunnel and greenway will be constructed separately from the culvert widening, but should only cause minimal traffic delays. Construction is estimated to begin in 2019 and be completed that year.
