Officer-Involved Vehicle Crash

On Thursday, September 12, 2019, at approximately 6:35 a.m., a Matthews officer from the Patrol Division was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the 900 block of Sam Newell Rd.  The officer was on-duty, with all of the police vehicle’s emergency notification equipment activated (Blue Lights & Siren).  The officer was responding to a report of a vehicle crash with injuries, at the intersection of E. Independence Blvd. near Matthews Mint Hill Rd.

The officer was traveling northbound on Sam Newell Rd. when the vehicle crossed over the oncoming lane of travel and struck a power pole.  There were no reported power outages from this incident.  The officer was transported to the hospital, treated, and released.  There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries reported.
