Hood Room at Town Hall, 232 Matthews Station Street

Matthews is known for its well-attended special events and family festivals, food truck Fridays, new restaurants opening, and the popular First Thursday events. These activities are bringing more people to downtown and more customers into our local stores.  We hope you’ll join other interested business owners and residents across Greater Matthews and learn what’s being done to support existing businesses and encourage new businesses to consider Matthews as a viable location for startups. At this Business Summit, successful business owners will share insights into why they chose to open their stores in downtown Matthews and why they believe other startups should follow their lead.

Guest Presenters include:

Liz Parham (Director, NC Main Street and Rural Planning Center)

Rob Jacik (Owner, Carolina Beer Temple)

Alexander “Xan” Hood (Owner, Buffalo Jackson Trading Co.)

John Urban, Moderator (Owner, Urban Architectural Group)

This meeting is free but seating will be limited. Please register by Monday, February 6 to secure your place at this event.

Welcome to the Town of Matthews, a community connected to a wonderful quality of life. Matthews is in a prime location near Charlotte and its regional amenities, within a few hours of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Carolina coast while providing close access to transportation networks (I-485, U.S. 74), Amtrak service, and both regional and international airports.

Matthews is home to vibrant national and international businesses with available land, office space and infrastructure in place. If you are already doing business in Matthews we are available to assist you with any expansion or improvements to your operations.

If you are a new business, Matthews is the perfect locale for your endeavors. We have available properties and land for most types of businesses. We will also work with state agencies to help you qualify for state incentives or grants. Review our brochure for new businesses for helpful information about starting a business in Matthews.

The Matthews Board of Commissioners has approved an Economic Development Incentive Grants Policy that will encourage businesses who are looking for a location to call Matthews home and for businesses already here to be able to stay and expand. The policy may be reviewed in its entirety here:  Economic Development Incentive Grant Policy

Matthews seeks a collaborative relationship with businesses as they work to achieve success in the world's economy. Priorities include regional innovation, private/public partnerships with developers to bring businesses and industries with job opportunities and competitive salaries, environmentally-sustainable development and more. We work with existing businesses as well as businesses that may potentially locate in the Town.

The Town is fortunate to have an educational institution in its midst that offers degrees and workforce training Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). CPCC has a Small Business Center that provides both free and fee based courses that help you start, grow and manage businesses of every size.
