Prevention and Community Relations
On Saturday, October 12th from 10 AM -1 PM, Matthews Fire & EMS will hold an open house for Fire Prevention Week. Come see the trucks, spend time with our firefighters/EMT's and learn all about how to be safe around fire. We will also have recruiting staff available for those wishing to see how Matthews still relies heavily on volunteers to keep our town safe. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?!? Come join us on October 12 and see...

Matthews Fire & EMS, In addition to Public Education and Fire Prevention, participates in a variety of community events. For questions about any programs or activities that we can assist with, please call (704)708-1201 or Email. Please note that any requests for site visits as well as station visits should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. Event requests less than two weeks away will be scheduled on a case by case basis, as staffing permits.

Smoke Alarms

Matthews Fire & EMS recommends that smoke alarms be checked monthly to ensure that they are in working condition. We also recommend that you replace the batteries at least twice a year, when you change your clocks. (This excludes alarms with 10 year batteries). Each bedroom, the hallways outside sleeping areas and living areas should all have working smoke alarms.

Remember that most manufacturers recommend replacing your alarms every ten years. Matthews Fire & EMS will gladly assist you in installing alarms as well as replacing batteries in your smoke alarms when requested,  Email or call (704)708-1201.  We also have access to a limited number of devices for the deaf and hard of hearing that work in conjunction with your home's smoke alarms.

School Visits & Tours of the Fire Station

Fire and Life Safety Education programs are designed for children Pre-K and older.  Please call (704)708-1201 or Email  us to schedule a visit.  Please include name, phone number and the date you would like to have the event.  If your class or organization would like to visit the station, we can arrange that as well.

Reflective Blue Address Signs

Reflective address signs are available for purchase. These signs easily mount to your mailbox or other post and allow for easy identification of your address in the event of an emergency. For more information and the order form, click here.
