Town of Matthews
Police

Welcome:  The members of the Matthews Police Department welcome the opportunity to hear from you - what's going on in your neighborhood or business, and what we can do to make our community safer. Please let us know if you cannot find the information you're looking for or to provide feedback about this site or about members of our department.

About Us:  The Matthews Police Department is staffed by approximately 85 full and part-time employees. We are aided in our mission by more than 25 dedicated citizen volunteers. Generally serving in one of four service divisions - Administration, Criminal Investigations, Patrol, and Support Services - our staff is committed to providing the highest level of service possible to our citizens. While our employees' work shifts vary from 8 to 12 hours, many still volunteer to assist organizations like Safe Kids, our Police Explorer' Post and the Lunch Buddies Program at our local elementary schools.

Our Commitment:  The shared Mission of our staff is simple, but focused - "The members of the Matthews Police Department strive to promote a safe community by preventing crimes and reducing the fear of crime by our citizens, while treating all individuals fairly and with respect. Our members will demonstrate knowledge, courage and integrity while building partnerships necessary to enhance the safety of our community."  We recognize, however, that our members alone cannot keep our community safe - this requires the support and assistance of all members of our community. Through our Neighborhood Watch and Business Safety programs, our Child Safety partners, and especially the dedicated members of our Citizens Volunteer Corp, our goal is to establish partnerships throughout our community. We challenge you to get involved!

Keeping You Safe -

Safe Exchange Sign

The members of the Matthews Police Department are here to make the exchanges of your Internet and personal purchases safe. We encourage you NOT to to invite unknown subjects to your home or to meet in locations where you may be alone or unobserved. Just simply provide our address and either meet in our front parking lot or in our lobby. Both areas are under 24/7 video surveillance and employees are present at all times.  Click on the image to access additional Internet / Online purchase safety tips from the National Cyber Security Alliance.

Nextdoor
We are pleased to announce that we are now on Nextdoor! Our goal is to keep individual neighborhoods informed of crime information and safety tips, as well as help citizens have another outlet to give us information in our community partnership. Simply click on the image to access the Nextdoor web site. If you have any questions about our role on Nextdoor or of any other safety issues, please contact Officer Tim Aycock at: taycock@matthewsnc.gov or 704-841-6754.

National Night Out 2017

On Tuesday August 1, 2017 neighborhoods throughout Matthews are invited to join thousands of communities nationwide for the annual “National Night Out.” This is an annual event that encourages neighborhoods to gather as a community and get to know one another, along with your local police Officers. National Night Out is sponsored by Target and the event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized in their commitment to keeping their homes and families safe. The recommended event times are from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. For more information, or to register your Matthews neighborhood for this year’s National Night Out, please contact Officer Tim Aycock at: taycock@matthewsnc.gov or 704-841-6754. The deadline to register your neighborhood is Wednesday July 12, 2017.
